Week 1: 6/13-6/17/2022
Morning CampSelect one from the following:
Introduction to ChessThe program includes chess instruction at multiple levels with an emphasis is on the joy of the game. Instruction will start with simple problems to illustrate key concepts, and then move to more intricate positions. Students will learn by playing. They will be able to integrating new information with previous knowledge while building effective thinking habits in chess.
Jr. Robotics - DashThis class takes Students on an introductory journey into the world of robotics. Students will be introduced to basic engineering and programming concepts as well as motors and sensors. Students will learn through playing and creating different programs using motors, light sensors, distance sensors, power, and more. Students will also learn fundamental programming concepts using drag-and-drop visual programming tool: Algorithm Design, Command Sequences and Control Flow, Conditions, Loops, Sensors and Events through creative problem solving.
Afternoon Camp Select one from the following:
Art Appreciation (series 1)The importance of exposing kids to art early in life is often undervalued. But giving young children an appreciation for art encourages exploration, self-expression, logical thinking, self-esteem, imagination, and creativity. Early art experiences also teach kids to think openly, create new meaning, be more tolerant of others' differences, and gives them the courage to take risks. This camp is how to encourage art appreciation in your young child, and make the most out of those crucial learning years. The kids will learn how to paint flowers, trees, nature scenes and a variety of animals use Chinese brush and ink. Each kid will create a portfolio to keep.
Lego Challenge: Simple Machine/PulleyStudents will build simple machines that really work, using gears, levers and pulleys, while building fine motor skills, sequential thinking skills, problem solving skills and confidence. We are not just building, we are BUILDING BRAINS!
Chinese Myths and Stories (by SDSU CCC)Arouse children's interest in Chinese mythology through the modern excellent movies of Chinese mythology and learn the quality behind the story. The purpose of this lesson is to enhance children's creativity by incorporating the spirits learned in fairy tales in the form of handicrafts.
This camp is instructed in English by SDSU Chinese Cultural Center.

Outdoor Sports (Group A)Outdoor sports camps take place in the Canyon Crest Academy fields. Activities include: Basketball,Soccer, Rugby, Yoga. The students in this group will be doing a lot of mind-body awareness activities: cornhole, horseshoes, and ultimate frisbee.
Adventures in MathlandStudents will explore a multitude of mathematical concepts as they learn new games and puzzles and revisit old favorites. As students learn, explore, collaborate, and play they will test and improve their aptitude for computation, logic, and problem-solving as they maneuver through a variety of dynamic games. Learning has never been so much fun.
Cooking Academy In this exciting camp, budding young chefs will have the chance to learn kitchen skills and the art of cooking.
Afternoon Camp Select one from the following:
Awesome Elements! A to ZincGet down to the basics exploring the elements! Your budding chemist may enjoy attending a chemistry camp through experiments; chemistry camps help kids connect real-world situations with science. Campers learn the fundamentals of chemistry and laboratory safety. Learn what makes a volcano erupt, or make your own bottle rocket through knowledge of chemical reactions. Campers will create several other wacky, wild and crazy concoctions!
Lego: Nature & AnimalsStudents learn to use the most basic bricks to build awesome animals and learn their natural habitats and interactions with humans. They can think of an idea, a design, anything in heads and count on LEGO bricks to show their creativity to the entire world.
Kung Fu (by SDSU CCC)The Siu Nim Do sequence of movements will be the main focus for this introductory session. Students will learn more about this traditional martial arts system, work on body control, and improve their self-control skills.

Secret Spy SchoolYou are a spy and you have a mission! But the first you need training……Beat boredom this summer by doing a spy school summer camp! Explore forensic science, learn finger printing and join the CSI team! At end of the week, The campers will receive the spy certificate and become a secret agent.
A Drawing Adventure and a Journal of CreativityStudents will create drawings based on a true or imaginary journey. It will be based on the where, how, who and what during the adventure. They will create their adventures while learning basic drawing, designs concepts and principle.
Afternoon Camp Select one from the following:
Wacky WeatherThe world likes to surprise us with all kinds of wacky weather, from twisty tornadoes to super-sized hurricanes and tsunamis! We need to make sense of what makes this weather happen scientifically. We will also get wild ourselves with art projects and science experiments.
Lego Creative Architecture and CommunityWe will have endless creativity and fun with creating animals, buildings and vehicles with LEGO bricks. The class will involve multiple levels of building complexity suitable for both beginners and experienced builders.
Chinese calligraphy (By SDSU CCC)Chinese calligraphy class is a fundamental level class to introduce Chinese calligraphy art and learn how to use brush, ink and rice papers. Class will bring and explore the fun way to learn Chinese calligraphy and teach the basic skills of writing of strokes.
This camp is taught by SDSU Chinese Cultural Center instructor.

Unlock your Imagination-Poem a DayPoems are other people's snapshots in which we see our own lives, Charles Simic. In this camp, we will lead kids to see that poems are a snapshot of a time and place, an emotion, a state of being. Then kids start to see the meaning of poetry and learn why poetry matters to them. We will invite the kids to read through the poems in this week and select the poem to illustrate. Unlocking the kids' imagination by poems and unlocking poetry by art.
Creative ClayArtists will explore various ways to create with clay. They will explore projects such as pinch pots, Pueblo pots, animal sculptures, and more. All without the use of a pottery wheel or a kiln.

Be a Scientist!Become a wacky scientist by joining us for a week of weird, crazy, and mysterious experiments using the same kinds of tools scientists use every day. Learn how to combine everyday items to create amazing reactions and conduct edible experiments. This is a fun way to get started in science.

Little Med School: System of the BodyKids are fascinated by their stomach, lungs, and brain. In this camp, The campers will uncover how body parts function together. Each day we will explore a body system.

Reading Comprehension StrategiesStudents will be learning reading comprehension strategies using Reciprocal Teaching, which uses summarizing, predicting, clarifying and questioning strategies to help students comprehend the text.
Architecture Shape CollageStudents will use their imagination to creates simple structures, gigantic monuments, and magnificent palaces. They will learn and practice geometry, architectures and graphic arts.
Beginner TennisThis class teaches the fundamentals of tennis to our young students. Proper technique is emphasized along with racquet control, cooperation and movement.

Story Book FavoriteStorytelling is an art and lives within the heart of everyone, but especially children. In this camp, each student will be asked to bring in his or her favorite storybook. These will be shared and as a class we will discover what makes a story a true favorite.
Lego: Nature & AnimalsStudents learn to use the most basic bricks to build awesome animals and learn their natural habitats and interactions with humans. They can think of an idea, a design, anything in heads and count on LEGO bricks to show their creativity to the entire world.
